The Event
This is the second year Boroughmuir RFC has taken over the entire site at
Meggetland to host The Capital Sevens and provide a whole days
entertainment for all the family.
At the centre of this spectacular day out is a senior mens seven a side
rugby tournament. The competing teams are all from the Edinburgh district
and include an apprentice side from current holders, Edinburgh Rugby, the city’s professional club.
The amateur players from Premier clubs, and some of the junior clubs throughout the city, relish the opportunity to pit themselves against the up and coming professionals. And, of course, the spectators enjoy watching them ruffle a few feathers in the process. Winning teams in the first round will go on to compete for the “Pug” Webster Trophy, whilst the losers at that stage will proceed into the plate competition.
Earlier in the day the Under 18s get the action underway with their own 10 a side tournament. Ambition, enthusiasm and no small amount of skill is always in evidence when the youngsters take the field. The final of their tournament takes place at 1pm, prior to the first tie of the main event.
If you need a break from the wall to wall rugby action then cross to the other side of the stand and visit the Mega Party. The all weather pitch and football pitch is given over to a host of other activities. A number of “come and try” sessions for sports such as hockey, tennis, basketball and handball. A rugby skills session hosted by players from Edinburgh Rugby professionals will give the kids a chance to rub shoulders with some of their sporting heroes, who will also be on hand to sign autographs. The fun and games continue with the golf swing simulator, climbing wall, bungee run, sumo wrestling suits and circus skills sessions. There’s even a bouncy castle. In fact everything for the kids - whether big or small.
So that you can keep your strength up there will be refreshment and food stalls.
Everything you need for a fantastic family day out.
